Construction of Preston High School's first football field Item Info

Title:
Construction of Preston High School's first football field
Description:
Ern Porter's WPA crew building Preston High's first football stadium, now known as Cutler Field. This swail had been the expansive Frog Pond the school kids played in. Many sections of drain tile to be used are evident in the scene. Prior to this project the football games were played in the ball park, or rodeo arena as it is now claled. Looking northerly toward the old Wilf Smith home, 129 East, 100 South. Among the workmen are Leonard Hansen, Jim Corbridge and Ray Merrill. Ern Porter recalls: "The money was handled by an organization under the county commissioners. Wilford Smith was the first county foreman appointed by the commissioners and I was the first appointee under him. The stadium was our first project--and then the airport.
